Laurie E. Locascio

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Laurie E. Locascio as the 17th Director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and Under Secretary for Standards and Technology for the U.S. Department of Commerce. As the NIST Director, Dr. Locascio will also serve as the Honorary President for the National Conference on Weights and Measures (NCWM).
Dr. Locascio is no stranger to NIST. After many years as a researcher in biotechnology and leader for the Material Measurement Laboratory, she was promoted in 2016 to the acting Associate Director for Laboratory Programs at NIST. Soon thereafter, she took on a new challenge as the Vice President for Research at the University of Maryland, College Park and the University of Maryland, Baltimore where she oversaw the development of large interdisciplinary research programs, technology commercialization, innovation and economic development efforts, and strategic partnerships with industry, federal, academic, and nonprofit collaborators.
