UK teens to get free access to CyberLand platform to improve cyber skills - Government Computing Network

The UK’s National Crime Agency has joined forces with Cyber Security Challenge UK to offer free access to students to the latter’s online platform ‘CyberLand’ to enhance their cyber skills during the ongoing coronavirus lockdown.


According to the National Crime Agency, CyberLand is a virtual city which is packed with gamified modules to teach the basics of cyber security like firewall configuration and digital forensics to 12-18 year-olds.


The online platform has 16 interactive exercises, which are designed around the concept of shielding the virtual city from a cyber-attack. The platform will now be free to access until the end of September 2020, said the National Crime Agency.

National Crime Agency national cyber crime unit deputy director Jim Stokley said: “Many young people have a keen interest in technology and have developed impressive cyber skills.


“Part of our work in the National Cyber Crime Unit is to educate them on the laws governing cyber space and prevent them from committing crimes while online.

“We’ve partnered with Cyber Security Challenge UK to offer free access to their online platform Cyberland where young people will find games that encourage them to improve cyber skills safely and legally.”


As per the National Crime Agency, the age of offenders arrested by it for cyber crimes is usually much younger than other crime types, including children aged just twelve, who have been known to engage in such offences. Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.


Furthermore, the agency said that analysis indicates that teens having an interest in technology can sway towards cyber criminality without having complete knowledge of the law.
