Russian bloke charged in US with running $20 million stolen card-as-a-service online souk

Prosecutors say 29 year-old was mastermind of prolific 'Cardplanet' operation


A Russian man was detained at Dulles airport in Washington DC on Monday and charged with running a stolen card trading ring that was responsible for $20m worth of fraud.


Aleksei Burkov appeared in the Eastern Virginia US District Court on Tuesday to face charges (PDF) of access device fraud, conspiracy to commit access device fraud, wire fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and Conspiracy to Commit Access Device Fraud, Identity Theft, Computer Intrusion, Wire Fraud, and Money Laundering.


The court appearance happened shortly after the 29 year-old Burkov, originally from Saint Petersburg, was extradited to the States from Israel, where he has been held by that country's court system since 2015.
