MTV Takes On True Crime With New 'True Life' Spinoff - Showbiz Cheat Sheet

MTV is taking on the true crime genre with a new True Life spinoff. The investigative series True Life Crime will look at the truth behind shocking crimes involving young people. The eight-episode docuseries, which will be hosted by Dometi Pongo, premieres January 8, 2020, at 9/8c on MTV and VH1.

True Life Crime will look at eight cases involving young people who died or went missing under strange circumstances. 


One of the show’s episodes will look at the 2017 death of 19-year-old Kenneka Jenkins. The teen disappeared while attending a party at a suburban Chicago hotel. After a frantic search, her body was discovered 24 hours later in the hotel’s walk-in freezer. Police say her death was a tragic accident, but many disagreed. 


Another episode will examine the case of Sarah Stern. In December 2016, the 19-year-old’s car was found abandoned on a bridge. She was missing. Though it looked like a suicide, an investigation turned up troubling clues, including the fact that Sarah reportedly had access to a large sum of money. Could that have been a motive for murder? One of her former classmates goes undercover to find out what really happened to Sarah on that December night.
