Podcast #76 Ryan Merchant von Dashlane
Ryan Merchant managed to surprise us both with his self-reflection and insights into the current tech business world. With offices in NYC and Paris, communication is key: Dashlane - the company he works for - solves the problem with radical transparency: Among others, numbers are open for everyone to see and the notes of c-level meetings are published for the whole company. After a short talk he shared his insights into the cultural differences which still exist when it comes to privacy between the US, UK, France and Germany and which continue to persist even though we live in a globalized world which is always online. Ryan also offers some insights into the eternal struggle of convenience versus security and his thoughts on why biometrics won’t replace the password anytime soon. How work-life balance can be achieved is a topic as well, made even more interesting with his insights into how a policy of unlimited vacation days and flexible working hours work.(We can already feel some people starting to sweat…)

Ryan war eine große Überraschung auf unserem New York Trip und hat uns beide mit seiner Selbstreflektion und seinen tiefen Einsichten in die Tech-/Businesswelt beeindruckt. Mit Büros in New York und Paris stellt Dashlane besondere Anforderungen an die unternehmensinterne Kommunikation und löst die Herausforderungen mit ‘radikaler Transparenz’ (Lesetipp PRINCIPLES): Sämtliche Zahlen sind von allen Mitarbeitern einsehbar, die Meetingprotokolle der Führungsebene werden für alle veröffentlicht und viel mehr. Auch der Unterschiedliche Umgang mit der (digitalen) Privatsphäre in den USA, Großbritannien, Frankreich und Deutschland sind ein Thema, da diese auch weiterhin fortbestehen, obwohl wir in einer komplett vernetzten Welt leben. Der ewige Wettstreit zwischen Sicherheit und Bequemlichkeit ist ein weiteres Thema, ebenso eine Diskussion über Biometrie und warum diese das altgediente Passwort nie ablösen wird. Die Work-Life-Balance in einem Unternehmen mit unbegrenzten Urlaubstagen und flexiblen Arbeitszeiten (einige unserer Hörer fangen vielleicht schon an zu schwitzen…) kommt zuletzt dran, aber sicher nicht an letzter Stelle.
