Comment: NHS have issued a warning over texts scams

the NHS have issued a warning over texts scammers are sending in a bid to steal people’s bank details. In response to this the comment from Matt Aldridge, Principal Solutions Consultant at OpenText Security Solutions on what to do when you receive a scam message.

“Organised cybercrime is constantly adapting to shifts in the news agenda and the healthcare industry is a prime target for attackers. It’s unfortunate that the NHS has been a common target for cybercriminals throughout Covid-19 and it’s not surprising it continues to be a focus.

The latest scam texts being distributed under the guise of the NHS are trying to scam individuals into sharing bank details. What individuals need to be aware of in situations similar to these is understanding that it is a scam message and to react in the appropriate way. By staying alert and not clicking on suspicious links or providing personal details, whether financial or password related, it is the best way to stay protected. Report the message and stay vigilant for anything that is out of the ordinary compared to usual texts from the NHS, your bank or any other provider that usually communicates via SMS.”
