Colonial Pipeline Is Mum On Status Of Response To Cyber Attack

A best practice of crisis management is to keep everyone who is affected by a crisis informed about what is known and is being done about the situation. This is especially important in a crisis that can affect millions of people, such as when Colonial Pipeline shut down its 5,500 miles of pipelines on Friday in the aftermath of a cyber attack. The pipelines provide almost half the fuel for the East Coast of the U.S.

Reuters reported that, “The incident is one of the most disruptive digital ransom operations ever reported and has prompted calls from American lawmakers to tighten protections for critical U.S. energy infrastructure against hackers.”
