Next Halo: MCC flight to test cross-play, input-based matchmaking, and more

343 Industries just wrapped up the Halo: ODST launch on PC - watch out for our review later today - and already, the studio is prepping the next game that's incoming to the Halo: The Master Chief Collection. In its latest Flighting Update, the studio said Halo 4 tests are slated to begin next month, and it should also bring in several highly requested features by the community.

Players across Xbox One, Microsoft Store, and Steam will be enrolled in this test, and if the current plans hold together, portions of Halo 4's campaign, Spartan Ops, and multiplayer will arrive in this flight. Updated Halo 4 Spartan customization options, Forge, Theater, and new Challenges will be a part of this session too.

Meanwhile, on the Master Chief Collection changes side, the long-time-coming input-based matchmaking and cross-play capabilities are planned for this flight as well, letting PC and Xbox One players join together on the same servers. In a previous update, the studio said the chosen input device will lock in once matchmaking is initiated, with only non-competitive modes like Firefight and Infection allowing both platforms to join together.

343 Industries is also aiming to push the server region selection feature into this upcoming flight. If the tests pan out, all of these features should land alongside Halo 4's launch on PC later this year.
