Two Ventura County school districts affected by cyber attack Friday morning - VC Star

A cyber attack briefly affected internet service Friday morning at Ventura and Conejo Valley unified school districts, according to officials.


Dave Schermer, director of communications for Ventura County Office of Education, said there was a denial of service attack targeting Ventura Unified that disrupted internet service at district sites from around 9-10:45 a.m.


A denial of service attack is when a host or server is inundated from a malicious threat until legitimate users are unable to access it, according to federal Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.


"The disruption affected VUSD’s internet service at their school sites, so teachers who were working from their classrooms were no longer able to connect with their students," said Schermer.






The Ventura County Office of Education is currently under a denial of service cyber attack. This is affecting most if not all VUSD issued devices. This includes teachers, staff, and student devices. We are working with the county to try to resolve the issue. Thank you.
