The city of Johannesburg in South Africa is working to get its power grid back online after a ransomware infection blocked service for some customers.


Utility company City Power confirmed local news reports that that a malware outbreak on Thursday left some customers relying on prepaid services unable to re-fill their accounts, leaving them without electricity.


The city government did not provide details on the type of ransomware that hit the power company, but said that customer information was not accessed in the attack.
