OWM Announces New Legal Metrology Publications: NIST SP 2200 series

The NIST Office of Weights and Measures (OWM) is currently developing a Legal Metrology Publication Series: SP 2200 to provide our stakeholders with current information on the status and development of U.S. and international legal metrology issues. The SP 2200 series will also include a range of reports on OWM technical activities, guidance, training, and recommended best practices.

We are also pleased to announce our most recently published NIST SP 2200 (SP 2200-02) that describes the 2022 NIST Summary of U.S. Legal Metrology Activities conducted over last year. We anticipate this summary to be published annually and to serve as a central repository and citable source of U.S. legal metrology and weights and measures program and meeting synopses (including NCWM), relevant technical activity and working group summaries, and other inclusive information that may be relevant to our partners, customers and U.S. and international stakeholders.

The 2022 NIST Summary provides an archival record of proposals and associated actions with the goal of assisting the weights and measures community in consistently interpreting and implementing changes to NIST Handbooks 44, 130, and 133. This includes a NIST OWM high-level summarization of technical aspects, as well as an OWM detailed analysis including background information, regional association reporting, and recommendations for items that were proposed for changes to these NIST Handbooks at the National Conference of Weights and Measures (NCWM).

The upcoming 2023 NIST Summary of U.S. Legal Metrology Activities will reflect a summary of changes made to the 2023 NIST Handbooks. Please watch for our announcement for the release of the 2023 NIST Summary of ..
