A new national cybersecurity training programme has been launched in a bid to address the current shortage of skilled cybersecurity personnel.
The funded courses will be offered by the Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre of Excellence (AMTCE), established by the Louth Meath Education and Training Board (LMETB).
The courses will be practical in nature will utilise outside industry experts and will be open to individuals as well as employees of organisations.
A recent report from Cyber Ireland found that by 2030 the cybersecurity industry will be worth €2.5 billion employing over 17,000 people.
"Ever-increasing levels of connectivity are now exposing factory systems to cyber security risks and manufacturing now accounts for almost 25% of all cyberattacks," said Martin O'Brien, chief executive of LMETB and the founder of the AMTCE.
"A recent report by KMPG highlighted the fact that nearly one in five organisations have no factory IT cyber security awareness training to improve the security culture across organisations," Mr O'Brien said.
"This is a clear deficit that needs to be addressed urgently," he added.
