Australia's national broadcaster will more than double its spend on cyber security measures in the wake of an attack on the Nine Network.

ABC managing director David Anderson has revealed the broadcaster's cyber security costs would increase from $1.7 million this financial year to $3.9 million next financial year.

'It is something that, frankly, for any media organisation you have to invest in to stand still,' he told a Senate estimates hearing in Canberra on Wednesday.
