Deputy PM reiterates call that curfew could be imposed if people ignore health instructions
Legal action has been taken against 23 social media accounts in Kuwait for posting misinformation and spreading panic over the current coronavirus pandemic.
While the country’s public prosecutor Dherar Al-Asousi has warned that they will not tolerate rumour-mongers who post false information about the virus on social media, websites and media.
In a statement he said the full force of the law would be used against anyone who spreads fake news during the current crisis and urged members of the media and the public to get their information only from official sources.
Meanwhile, Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anas Al-Saleh has emphasised that a decision to impose a national curfew is "on the cards" should relevant instructions, mainly steering away from gatherings, be ignored.
"This option (curfew) is likely to be put in place, if people fail to keep away from gatherings," he warned.
There are currently 130 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Kuwait.
