Beware of this FAKE security warning popping up on Android smartphones

An old and notorious malware called Flubot has reportedly made a comeback with new capabilities. Cybercriminals are now fooling people into installing the virus in their phones.

Attackers are sending such warning messages to phones of android users that prompt that they have been the victim of a dangerous security breach and infected by the malware. However, the message has been found to be fake.

The message asks users to take action against the alleged security breach by clicking on a link. Be warned, the link will instead install the malware on the device.

Upgraded malware

Cybercriminals earlier used the text message to infect devices with the Flubot malware, by sending a link to access voicemail. The fake message is changed regularly to ensure that victims are confused into clicking the link and permitting the malware to get installed on their phones.

The threat has been reported by the Computer Emergency Response Team of New Zealand (CERT NZ), which revealed that the latest target messages from hackers claim that the users’ photos were uploaded, prompting them to view them by clicking the link.
