The administration of the city of Potsdam has taken its own servers offline for the time being as a precaution, presumably because a cyberattack was suspected. There was already a cyberattack on the city administration’s servers in 2020.

“The state capital Potsdam has switched off the Internet connection of the administration as a precautionary measure today,” it says in a press release of the city administration. One is therefore with immediate effect no longer reachable by e-mail. This brings back memories of 2020, when the city administration went offline after a cyber attack – according to Tagesspiegel, it took over a year before all digital services were back online.
According to Mayor Mike Schubert, there had once again been indications of a cyber attack. They were working closely with the state and security agencies to get to the bottom of it and bring the servers back online as quickly as possible. In the meantime, Schubert asks citizens to be patient.
Due to the shutdown of the network connections, the administration is currently unable to send or receive e-mails. Also the procedure software could be used accordingly at present only limited, it is called from potsdam.
“In particular, applications of identity cards and passports or registrations and re-registrations are currently not possible.” The phones are not affected, however, so that citizens should contact the city by phone.
