Advantech WISE-PaaS/RMM Multiple Security Vulnerabilities

Risk

Date Discovered

October 31, 2019

Description

Advantech WISE-PaaS/RMM is prone to the following security vulnerabilities: 1. Multiple directory-traversal vulnerabilities 2. An unauthorized-access vulnerability 3. Multiple XML External Entity injection vulnerabilities 4. Multiple SQL-injection vulnerabilities An attacker can exploit these issues to execute arbitrary code in the context of the system, or modify data, or exploit latent vulnerabilities in the underlying database, delete arbitrary files, gain elevated privileges, perform certain unauthorized actions, bypass certain security restrictions and perform unauthorized actions and obtain sensitive information. Failed attacks will cause denial of service conditions. versions prior to Advantech WISE-PaaS/RMM 3.3.29 are vulnerable.

Technologies Affected

  • Advantech WISE-PaaS/RMM 3.3.29

  • Recommendations

Run all software as a nonprivileged user with minimal access rights. To reduce the impact of latent vulnerabilities, always run nonadministrative software as an unprivileged user with minimal access rights.

Deploy network intrusion detection systems to monitor network traffic for malicious activity.Deploy NIDS to detect and block attacks and anomalous activity such as requests containing suspicious URI sequences. Since the webserver may log such requests, review its logs regularly.

Do not accept or execute files from untrusted or unknown sources. To reduce the likelihood of successful exploits, never handle files that originate from unfamiliar or untrusted sources.

Implement multiple redundant layers of security.Various memory-protection schemes (such as nonexecutable and randomly mapped memory segments) may hinder an attacker's ability to exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary code.

Updates are available. Please see the references or vendor advisory for more information.
