Australian cybersecurity company Cybermerc has launched a new federal funded national cyber threat sharing platform to support the government’s 2020 Cyber Security Strategy.
The new platform, AUSHIELD DEFEND, is designed to act as an internet portal to allow Australian businesses to share information about threats and attacks targeting Australian networks.
Participants can upload data on new attacks to the platform and have it analysed by expert human researchers assisted by machine learning. The results are shared out to the DEFEND community as cutting-edge Cyber Threat Intelligence alerts.
AUSHIELD DEFND was developed by Cybermerc with support from AustCyber. “AUSHIELD is a fantastic example of investing in sovereign capability,” AustCyber CEO Michelle Price commented.
“The AustCyber Projects Fund is a $15 million, three-year initiative designed to help the Australian cybersecurity industry grow and take ideas globally.”
Cybermerc CEO and co-founder Matthew Nevin said Australians must work together to address the ongoing rise in cyber attacks facing Australian businesses and organisations — cybersecurity incidents grew and estimated 70% between March and April this year.
“AUSHIELD DEFEND is now operational, and with it, we have a critical opportunity to build a community of digital trust and strengthen the cyber defence of Australian networks,” he said.
