Mozilla releases Firefox 86 equipped with ‘Total Cookie Protection’

When it comes to cookies, many users are hesitant to allow any website to track them, and rightfully so. The sharing of cookies across websites allows those who would spy on you to tag your browser and track your browser activity.


However, Mozilla just released Firefox 86 that has various new features including Total Cookie Protection which is a huge privacy advancement that has been built into Enhanced Tracking Protection (ETP) so websites cannot track you across the web.

Cookies also have other functions such as ensuring that the website operates properly WHILE cross-site cookies are needed for non-tracking purposes.

Total Cookie Protection detects that you intend to use a third-party login provider so it will give that provider permission to use a cross-site cookie specifically for the site you’re currently visiting.

Mozilla talked about their new feature in detail in a blog post stating that,



“Total Cookie Protection provides comprehensive partitioning of cookies and other site data between websites in Firefox. Together these features prevent websites from being able to “tag” your browser, thereby eliminating the most pervasive cross-site tracking technique.”
