Message from Secretary Alejandro N. Mayorkas on Cybersecurity Awareness Month

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a time to focus on increasing cybersecurity resilience across our Nation. As cyber crime and other malicious cyber activity continues to rise, every individual and organization must do their part to practice good cyber hygiene and mitigate their cyber risk. In cybersecurity, we are only as strong as our weakest link. That's why this year's theme for Cybersecurity Awareness Month is “Do Your Part, #BeCyberSmart."

Led by our colleagues at CISA and our partners at the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA), during each week in October DHS will highlight best practices for enhancing cybersecurity, raising awareness, and mitigating risk in communities across our country.

Our Department's focus on cybersecurity is not limited to a single month. Every day, DHS is working closely with our partners across every level of government and the private sector to lead the charge to defend a free and secure cyberspace. Our colleagues at CISA, TSA, the Coast Guard, Secret Service, ICE, FEMA, and OCIO are on the frontlines of this critical mission.

We continue to elevate cybersecurity as a top priority. In the last few months alone, we have launched dedicated sprints to combat the rise of ransomware, develop a top-tier diverse cybersecurity workforce, and protect our Nation's critical infrastructure. We are just getting started.

Please visit CISA's website to learn more about how to reduce your cybersecurity risk and stay safe online. Thank you for your service to our Department and to our country.

Alejandro N. Mayorkas Secretary of Homeland Security
