For the first time in the history of professional social media platform LinkedIn a formal investigation has been launched by Italian watchdog Garante Privacy over a data breach of 500m LinkedIn user accounts.
LinkedIn confirmed the probe and stated that it is ready to face a legal probe in this regards and is ready for the consequences as well–if/when found guilty.
Now to those who are not aware what exactly happened in this story, here are some facts. From the past few days, a data trove from LinkedIn is up for sale on the dark web and the data-set appears to be containing sensitive info of LinkedIn users such as their contact details including email and phone numbers, workplace info, gender, links to their other social media accounts and their last 12 months activity on the platform.
LinkedIn spokesperson has stated that they are still busy probing down the incident and so cannot comment until the conclusion of the probe takes place. However, the person disclosed that the data might have leaked to the hacking forum through a third party related to the company that was into the project of data scrapping used for various marketing programs.
