Govt moves to implement DNS policy

Government has said it will work with stakeholders to implement Domain Name System (DNS) policies to ensure that level playing field for all the stakeholders is created.


Speaking during the officiating of the First Edition of the Zimbabwe Domain Name Systems Forum today, ICT, Postal and Courier Services Minister Jenfan Muswere said this will  improve on recommendations to fight cybercrime in the country as government steps into implementing the Cyber Security and Data Protection Bill to ensure  internet use and users are governed by legislation that is moving with times.


“Government will work with stakeholders to implement Domain Name System policies to ensure that we have a level playing field for all the stakeholders. 


“This will also improve on recommendations to fight cybercrime as you are aware that due to the new normal the digital space has become the driver of social, economic and political development.”


Minister Muswere further said that privacy, surveillance and security has always been important for internet users


The government’s engagement with many stakeholders will attain the best policies to develop the Internet Ecosystem, he added.


“Privacy, Surveillance and Security remain important for internet users and through multi-stakeholder engagement we will attain the best policies to ensure that our Internet Ecosystem develops.”


He further challenged the committee that is yet to be selected to develop the DNS in the country to ensure the promotion of internet for developers as government aims at connecting the unconnected


“Our mandate as a Ministry is to Connect the Unconnected and ensure that everyone and everywhere has access to the internet. 


“I challenge the management committee that will be selected to develop DNS in Zimbabwe to ensure that we promote internet for development,” sa ..
