Data of 21,000 Indian students on sale on dark web
NEW DELHI: Sensitive data of over 21,000+ students, including their Aadhar cards, university IDs, photo and full signature, was put on sale on dark web, according to Cyble, a cyber security firm based in Atlanta. The breach is attributed to a financial technology company.

According to Cyble, there have been several breaches where data of more users have been compromised recently. But the company saw the keyword "signature" prompting it to investigate further. "Some of the other information included in the leak were – name, phone, email, Aadhar Number, Date of Birth, Gender, Full Address, College, Course, Graduation Date, Friend’s name, Friends’ number," the company wrote in a blog.

Cyber experts said that Indian tech-based companies have been under the sharp focus of cybercriminals because of "inadequate security measures". They added that the hackers took advantage of a vulnerability in the Cloud storage where the financial technology company stored user data.

A screenshot shared by the company shows names of several users whose data was compromised. "Cyble researchers decided to acquire the data and further validate the legitimacy of it.Upon the data acquisition, the claim of the actors was verified to be legit," according to Cyble's blog.
