Coral Springs Police Chief: Crime Down But Speeding Up - TAPinto.net

CORAL SPRINGS, FL – The overall crime rate in Coral Springs continued to go down in recent weeks due to thousands of people following coronavirus emergency orders to stay home, the city’s police chief said this week.

But Chief Clyde Parry said he is concerned about one problem: speeding on the city’s streets.

“I’ve noticed, since our roads are less congested, and we have less traffic out there, that speeding is starting to be a little bit of an issue,” Parry told Coral Springs city commissioners at a meeting on Wednesday. “People don’t have vehicles in their way, and they are going a little fast.”

Parry said if people continue breaking the law and speeding on main roads and in neighborhoods, the number of crashes and serious injuries will go up.

Coral Springs police officers are out patrolling, and they will ticket drivers when necessary, he said.

Parry didn’t go into details on which specific crime categories were down, only saying crime was down overall in the city.

A review of Coral Springs’ police crime reports from March 25-31 showed that many crime incidents fell into the following categories:

- Theft from cars (15 incidents)

- Domestic problems (12 incidents)

- Identity theft (eight incidents)

- Stolen cars (four incidents)

- Driving under the influence (three incidents)
