The federal government has been taking advantage of the latest advancements in facial recognition technology, with many programs making significant updates and upgrades in 2020.


Law enforcement agencies including Customs and Border Protection, Transportation Security Agency, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the U.S. Marshals Service all made major moves to expand their biometrics programs and upgrade their facial recognition technologies. At the same time, the Homeland Security Department’s central biometrics database started its wholesale migration to the cloud.


And in a year marked by widespread civil unrest and pandemic-induced isolation, the federal biometrics space was not immune to these outside influences.
